''SHE BELIEVED SHE COULD SO SHE DID.''
Solo Travel Tips for Female.
You are probably on this page because you are interested to travel alone for the first time but maybe you are afraid to give it a try. It's totally norm to feel that way. Travelling alone for the first time can be terrifying but trust me it's the best way to see the world.
Here are a few tips that can be useful to you on your first solo trip.
1. RESEARCH ABOUT DESTINATION
The most important thing to be aware about will be any safety concerns or warning in a place of the country you are visiting. Some countries like Paris are known for tourist scams and pickpockets. Other things will be, the language, the currency and an itinerary of activities you would like to do there. It's always nice to learn a few basic words like hello and thank you. You should also plan what you want to explore while you are there. I usually have my own itinerary and I would google how to get to those places before boarding my flight.
Get to know what is in the surrounding of your hotel. In case of any emergency it will be useful. Find out how far is your hotel to the nearest public transportation. You should know the place so well like you have been there before.
2. DO NOT SHARE INFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR TO A STRANGER
Even though solo travel had become famous these days especially among the ladies but it can be important to not reveal certain information on social media or to a stranger you meet while you are there. Even if you meet some stranger in a tram, do not reveal you are alone.
Let me share my experience. I met this guy on my way back to hotel. He started the conversation by asking where am I from. But he didn't stop there, he called me for a cup of coffee and I told him there is a Starbucks at my stop if he really wants to have coffee after he insisted. Before we got down at my stop,he actually told me that he wants to kiss me.I started laughing and I walked away quickly but he started screaming in the middle of the station that he really likes me. It's not wrong making new friends. I always make friends with people I meet in the train or even in a restaurant. But know your limits. Walk away if your are having a negative vibe. Trust your instinct when you are travelling alone.Travelling alone gives you creepy experiences but it also teaches you to be independent.
3. TAKE CARE OF YOUR VALUABLES
Hold your bag tightly when you are in public transportation because it's a common place for pickpocket incidents. I usually hang a pouch around my neck and hide it inside my sweater. My money and passport will be inside that pouch. Do not carry all your money, keep half of it in the safe in your hotel room but always carry enough money in case of emergencies.
4. AVOID DRINKING TOO MUCH OF ALCOHOL
I'm pretty sure you know why I'm saying this. I know a lot of things are legal in European countries that is illegal here in Malaysia but please control yourself when you are travelling alone. You can put yourself in a danger zone by drinking too much of alcohol. AGAIN,Know your limits.
I usually have a glass of wine when I'm having my lunch or dinner but I totally avoid places like clubs. I avoid certain areas at night. This directs back to tip number 1,get to know about the city your are travelling to. Get some information on places that are dangerous to visit at night.
I hope this post will help you during your solo travel. It's time to get out of your comfort zone. Travelling alone will give you a chance to grow and it helps you to discover what you can make happen.
We are women, people judge us but never apologize for being strong, independent and powerful.
